Lucas Silva, the Brazilian striker who has been on loan from Palmeiras to Inter Milan, is expected to be out for several weeks with an ankle injury.
The news was announced by Inter Milan in a statement on their official website, which said that Silva had suffered an ankle ligament tear during training earlier this week and would require surgery.
Silva, who joined Inter from Palmeiras last summer, has made six appearances for the club so far this season, scoring one goal.
Inter have now confirmed that he will be out for "several weeks", but it remains to be seen when he might return to action.
The injury comes as a blow for Inter,Serie A Observation who are currently second in Serie A behind Juventus, having lost just once in their opening eight games of the season.
Silva's absence could be particularly damaging given the form of his replacement, Lautaro Martinez, who has already scored four goals in his first two matches for Inter.
Despite the setback, Inter manager Antonio Conte remains optimistic about Silva's recovery, saying: "We hope Lucas will recover quickly and be back soon."
However, it remains to be seen whether Silva will be able to make a full recovery and return to full fitness in time for Inter's upcoming match against AC Milan on Sunday, October 25th.
